Volunteer with the Societies

Volunteering isn’t just about giving back: it’s an opportunity to grow, network, and influence the future of our field. Find a way to get involved today.

Join our editorial boards

The American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA), and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) publish thirteen peer-reviewed journals. The editorial boards uphold the editorial standards of our Societies and the peer review process by shepherding papers through the peer review process.

Most editorial board positions serve up to two consecutive three-year terms. If you are interested in becoming an editorial board member, please volunteer for the editorial board of your choice via our committee volunteer form.

Become a peer reviewer

Peer review is the cornerstone of scholarly publication. Reviewers evaluate submissions fairly, rapidly, and confidentially for innovation and novel results. We welcome reviewers from all over the world and authors often return the service of peer reviewers by providing their time and expertise as a reviewer. Learn more about the benefits of becoming a peer reviewer and the peer review process by visiting our peer review page.

Are you interested in becoming a reviewer for one of our publications? Click here to learn how to register as a user in our submission system. Then send us your contact information, journals you are interested in reviewing for, and areas of expertise: Send Message. Please use "Peer Review" as the subject of your email.

Run or vote for leadership

Elections shape the future of ASA, CSSA, and SSSA, influencing decisions that resonate far beyond the Society. Through voting, you have the opportunity to choose leaders who will champion your interests and leave a lasting impact on our communities. Elections are held annually in the Spring for President, Board of Directors, and Section Vice Chairs with terms beginning January 1.

Volunteer for committee service

Committees are the backbone of our society. We rely on member engagement to chart our course moving forward. Committee members, working together, achieve and advance the visions and missions of the Societies by developing and recommending policy, providing advice on editorial issues, awards decisions, and assisting in building stronger member-focused Societies.

Become a mentor or mentee

The ASA-CSSA-SSSA Peer Review Mentoring Program is a small, selective program designed to provide hands-on peer review training over the course of six months. Accepted applicants will be paired with an experienced mentor in their field and will be guided through the process of reviewing for an ASA-CSSA-SSSA journal. The program is free of charge, but mentees are required to be ASA, CSSA, and/or SSSA members at the time of application. Potential candidates are early-career professionals (graduate students or post-docs) with little to no prior peer-reviewing experience. Ideal candidates will have some experience with academic publishing from an author perspective.
