What project are you currently working on that excites you the most?

Professionally, I recently made the move into more of a product development and research focused position. I'm working with our R&D team at work to help develop new products for the outdoor yard space. I learn something new and get to do something different every day, which is a big reason I love my job! Plus, I'm starting to build out a research plan for the company which is really exciting!

From an academic standpoint, I'm working on finalizing the last couple of chapters in my PhD dissertation, which explores using clover or bacteria blends to enhance turfgrass while reducing inputs like water, herbicides, and fertilizer.

What is the best piece of career advice you’ve received?

Your career doesn't have to look like anyone else's! This was especially impactful as I struggled with not necessarily wanting to go into academia after my PhD, and it led me to explore consulting and, more recently, working at a startup while I work toward my degree. I've also recently learned about the "Career River" philosophy (an alternative the more traditional Career Ladder). This philosophy allows for more twists and turns in a career path, while allowing you to learn new skills, try new things, and follow a less structured approach to career growth, and I've really embraced that concept over the last year or so.
